I just signed up to compete in the upcoming Ras Al Khaimah tournament! Only 15 days left… As always at this point I’m very excited to compete but I wish I had more free time to get a good amount of great training in.
Ras Al Khaimah is one of the seven emirates of the UAE. It’s only a 2-hour drive from my apartment in Dubai – and that’s awesome! It’s so great to be based in a country that supports the sport you love. It’s great to have all these tournaments happening in town thanks to the Jiujitsu Federation in the UAE.
In October, I won my first gold medal in the Al Ain Jiujitsu Open. Al Ain is also one of the seven emirates of the UAE and this tournament will always be very special because it was my first gold medal after about a year of competing.
This month has been thankfully quite eventful for work as I presented amazing events like the Sailing World Cup Awards and I have a series of upcoming events in Qatar, Oman, and Abu Dhabi and Dubai. I post a lot of cool pictures and videos from all of my projects on my personal account on instagram @shadiabseiso
At this point I know exactly which days I’m working and which days I can train. When I’m not filming or presenting – I head straight to Pride Fitness Centre in Dubai to train with my SAS Team Dubai teammates who are also getting ready to compete.
I feel like when you’re aiming for gold – no amount of training or preparation is ever really enough. But it is, what it is – I need to come to terms with the fact that I’m not a full time athlete, I’m a TV Presenter – and I feel super blessed every day to wake up and do what I love in one of the most high-profile cities in the world; Dubai.
Instead of complaining about not being able to get in as much training as I would like, I’m just going to go for it, and I will train and compete my heart out. And I will get the gold!
Here is a picture of the podium in the Al Ain tournament – I’m hoping to stand in the same spot on December 20 as well!
See you on the mat
